Boston Whaler 18′ Restoration
Gresham Marine took on the restoration of a 18′ Boston Whaler which was parked in a backyard for more than 25 years. All wood was deteriorated beyond repair, many issues with the fiberglass, and all chrome was rusted. These Boston Whalers are highly sought after for there performance on the water and there comfort.
Here’s a picture of the Boston Whaler after being uncovered after 25 years.
To begin the restoration, everything was removed from the boat, rails old seats and consoles, so that all fiberglass could be addressed.
Work started by removing everything from the boat. Cracks in the fiberglass were ground down and filled with fiberglass, epoxy, and filler. Lots of old holes that were no longer being used were filled. The engine was removed and salvaged.
The inside of the boat was primed and painted in the original Boston Whaler blue.
The topsides of the boat were also sanded primed and painted with AwlGrip to the original color.
All the chrome was polished and re-installed
All seats, steering console, and benches were assembled and revarnished.
Here’s the boat being splashed just in time for ABYC opening day.
The boat was completed in about 4 months and the new Yamaha engine purchased and all electrical wiring completed. Here the new owners are celebrating the restoration of the Whaler in Avalon, Catalina.
